When you look into the eyes of the reflection looking back at you in the mirror, who do you really see? Is it the person who watched you graduate school, kiss your first chick and drink your first beer - Is this the same dude who will be there when you die? Sometimes i wonder if i even know who this reflected person is and whether he can be trusted as a reliable witness to my life!
When i was younger, much younger, it felt as if i was on a quest to discover the real person behind the narcissistic gaze and went to extreme lengths to uncover his true identity. Acohol, drugs and a firm adherence to a 'live fast, die young' attitude got me within a hand's reach of this grabbing this stranger, but they were always just out of my grasp and ever elusive. As i matured i tried different paths to find him, meditation, sensory deprivation and even tantric chanting, but it never seemed enough.
It was only when i slipped into the dark world of lucid dreaming that i discovered that the monster who had been chasing me in my dreams all these years was none other than the person i had been looking for. I felt like Luke Skywalker as i finally turned and faced my personal demon and unmasked him, only to find it was me, or the relfection of me who stared back - needless to say, after years of therapy and sackfulls of lithium i can just about deal with the realisation of who i really am - In other words - WTF !?!
Why am i telling you all this? Well, in a roundabout way it reflects the panic in my mind that arises whenever i am asked (and i get asked a lot) what is the best ever, number one, ultimate, most amazing, you-gotta-see-this clip i have ever seen on the internet throughout all my years of smurfing around? It resurges all the feelings i had in my younger days about 'WTF am i looking for out of life?' perspective and after my throat has stopped being drier than a dry thing, i manage to mutter 'I have NO f#cking idea!' - The look in the eyes of the person who has asked me either resembles a Zen buddhist monk who has come face to face with Siddhattha Gotama himself and asked 'What is the meaning of life?' and been given the same reply - Or i catch the familiar look on the person's face as they think to themselves, 'What a dork loser!' Either way, if ever you meet me and wanna freak me out for an hour or so, you now know what to do!
I was gonna leave it there and feel all smug about life, and i thought that with my luck, karma would appear at the door and kick me in the balls when i was least expecting it.
So......What is the best clip i have ever seen? I guess you deserve the truth! And that my friends is something that changes every day, it goes in different directions, depending on which way the wind happens to be blowing and if it happens to be sunny, cloudy, or both. If you really think about it, i mean, really think about it, no one can answer that question with any clarity!
But i promise you this, if ever the reflection in the mirror ever decides to speak to me and lets me in on that secret, you wil l be the first to know :)
