I'm fairly sure I never used to be like this. I used to stifle laughs and shake my head, saying 'That's so bad' or 'That's well out-of-order' and take the moral high ground. I used to care about people I'd never met and feel sorry for them when hilariously painful accidents befell them. I used to feign sympathy when an old lady with two brimming bags of shopping slipped on some ice and went ass over apex, shattering her good hip, instead of laughing my ass off and cursing the fact that I hadn't recorded it on my phone so that I could watch it over and over again, perhaps with a group of friends and a couple of bowls of popcorn being circulated.

Maybe its age, maybe I'm just being more honest with myself, but either way I'm fairly sure that my apparent moral decline is directly correlated to my internet usage. I'd draw you a graph but I'd probably just make it look like goatse.

I find myself laughing at the most horrific things these days. Without batting an eyelid I will happily laugh riotously at the twin towers falling, cyclists being hit by a car, the assassination of Benazir Bhutto (twice), cold-blooded murder, an air show catastrophe and of course, rape.

I have watched 2girls1cup start to finish enough times that tune is starting to grow on me and I can watch the entire BME Pain Olympics without flinching. Sometimes I really have to ask the question; 'Am I a bad person?' Obviously the answer is 'No', because if there's one thing I know with absolute certainty it's that I am one super mega awesome dude - I still know the action replay codes for Street Fighter 2 off the top of my head and if that's not the definition of awesome then awesome isn't something I wanna be!

It's not that I find these things inherently funny, but in the right context they can be. Not only are these images visually funny but there's a delicious kick provided by the horrendously poor taste that they're in that you just can't get with lolcats or other inoffensive material. I've come to the conclusion that laughing at an image of death, injury and injustice is okay. It really is! As long as you're not the guy that caused whatever it is you're laughing at then from a moral standpoint you're in the clear!

Sure, you'll probably hurt some people's feelings in the process but that's their own fault, not yours and if anything this should be seen as the cherry on the top. The thought of someone on the other side of the world gnashing their teeth, shouting at their screen and unleashing their furious but ultimately impotent rage through the conduit of the caps lock key makes me laugh louder than anything else. Stoking the fires is par for the course - if there's one thing that trawling the murky depths of the internet has taught me it's that if someone is willing to have their feelings hurt by some faceless voice from an undisclosed location who, in all probability is only making their 'opinion' heard in order to troll you in the first place, then you DESERVE to have your feelings hurt! F#ck you, f#ck your feelings and f#ck the horse you rode in on!
