WALK, RUN OR SKIP?

Since the dawn of time, many questions have baffled and confused man, many a great being has died for the cause of answering the unanswerable. Yet, it is not the big questions that make or break a man. No, it is the tiniest and seemingly unimportant questions that really determine who we are. And so, one must start at the simplest: to walk, to run or to skip?

To Walk
Surely the most leisurely of the three, allowing you to take in the scenery, the fresh air, and affords you ample braking time in case there is a passer-by who you vaguely recognise. Yet is this really what we want from a journey? After all, the main point of a journey is to arrive at a destination and whilst walking can be enjoyable, it fails to deliver the necessary speed. Sure, if you are after an easy, simple, slow way of getting from A to B, then walking is for you. Rather like the bicycle, you've got a simple, easy life, uncorrupted by the modern world yet always the last to arrive, or always the one who misses the last ten minutes of Friends.

To Run
The choice of the elite, willing to arrive exhausted to preserve those precious extra minutes spent at home. Running certainly adheres to the viewpoint that the arrival is the peak of the journey, meaning what goes before is merely a means to an end. While cutting out the enjoyment of the journey, running does increase the time spent at either end, meaning the connoisseurs of this style can catch the end of Friends and still be the first to arrive. In key with its typically sporty and athletic users, running represents the sports car, those of you who always want to be the best and can excuse the funny sounds you make and the eyebrows that are raised as you speed past.

To Skip
At first it seems to meld together the best of both worlds, a participant of this area can rapidly change speeds, enjoying not just the leisurely and enjoyable pace of the walker but with a quick spring of a leg, the blistering pace of a runner. Not only does skipping steal the positives of the others but it paves its own way in the path of journeying too. Not content at being fast and slow simultaneously, it revels in being the most free and enjoyable method there is, whilst retaining the seemingly magical property of not tiring the participant out. Try it, go on, and you'll realise that it's just as free and easy as those days you spent skipping down country lanes in your youth. Just make sure the blinds are down and the doors are locked first. And here we come to the one single problem with skipping, despite being alone as a negative; it is still the most detrimental of all. So, before you run outside and decide to give it a go, I've got some bad news - it's socially unacceptable. So if you are one of the few remaining and practising skipologists left, you are that car, the one with the weird markings, wacky colours and interior design. You never really want to look at it directly but deep inside you wish you had the tenacity to own one.

So, what of those of you who are still yet to fall into a camp; what do I advise you? Well, I firmly believe that everyone, even the patriots of the great walk and the infamous run, should give skipping a fairer chance. Be that person who glides through the misery, full of energy and exuberance and shout to the world as your finely pressed suit flies behind you like a cape of all that is good, "I'm free, I'm free".
